I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend and mentor, Senator Betty Kennedy. She was a kind and generous person, and a pillar of the Halton community.
Betty was a beloved leader who worked tirelessly to improve the world around her. Her calm, reassuring nature and quiet confidence always drew people to her.
Betty was a remarkable woman for her time and always leading by example. She was an early pioneer in broadcasting and her career at the CBC - on both The Betty Kennedy Show and Front Page Challenge, inspired me and countless other women to pursue careers in journalism. Later in life her appointment to the Senate inspired women, myself included, to pursue political life.
I will always value her warm friendship, support and advice. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by myself and the community of Halton she called home.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Kennedy family during this time.
